Argument Templates

The argument templates were very helpful. It put me on a path to start writing and basically told me what i should write about. It keeps you from going off topic and it guides you to your goal. Without the template i probably wouldn't have known what to write about and messed up the assignment. I would use this again if i had the choice.

essentialism

What is essentialism? Essentialism is the belief that people have an underlying and and unchanging essence. It is used in everyday writing to make use of unified concepts. An experience is something that has happened in your past that you have been able to learn from. Genre is the term for any category of literature or other forms of art or culture.

close reading

Close reading is when you observe facts and details about the text. You can focus on a small portion or you can look at the reading as a whole. After you read or during you read you can annotate the text. When your reading looking for repetitions and similarities. Than ask questions in your head about what you have just read.

1943

If i was to wake up in my bed in 1943 i would have absolutely no idea what was going on. I would wake up and see how everything around is me looks like its ancient. The clothing people wear would be completely different. The first thing i would do when i woke up is go to a baseball game and see some of the great old timer baseball players in action. Baseball was huge during the 1940s and it would be awesome to go to a game back then. Also the value of money was completely different. I would be rich, considering a hot dog back than was only like 5 cents.

21st century Emerson

A 21st century Emerson would say; while the methods of education have changed the role of the scholar has remained the same.  Emerson believed that the role of the scholar was not always to gain more knowledge but to help educate the less fortunate.  While education is more wide spread and tools like the cell phone and computer make learning more accessible there are still people in the world who don't have access to these tools.  He would say that the role of the scholar is to help achieve wide spread education.

Emerson is saying that the majority of people in the world are trying to rush their way through life and you cannot always be reliant on your parents and elders to be their for you. New things will come into play and you need to be ready for them. He is also saying how one person is not limited to one thing, and they can do anything if they put their mind to it. If one puts in the work they will get what they deserve. Every person will not just learn things on their own, they need to be taught.
